Senior lecturer, teacher of English specialising in English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes and Business English. Graduated from The University of Gdańsk in 2001.

Since 2019 Deputy Head for Education at Gdansk University of Technology Language Centre, a member of the University Quality Assurance Team, coordinator of the LC Quality Assurance Team, and the LC certification activities.

mgr Jolanta Wielgus

A language teacher of English for Specific Purposes (Engineering), Business English and English for Academic Purposes. Since 2019 Head of the GUT Language Centre. In the years 2006 - 2019 Deputy Head for Education at the GUT Language Centre.

Since 2014 the national coordinator of the academic language certification system ACERT, issued by universities affiliated to SERMO, recognized by European universities on the basis of a memorandum signed by the NULTE member countries in 2018.

E-Learning

The Language Centre offers traditional instructor-led training supplemented with e-learning components prepared in various electronic formats.

Our high-impact educational programmes sucessfully motivate university students giving them additional learning opportunities created by supplementary online language exercises, uploaded to Moodle and other platforms, and tools such as discussion forums, blogs or wikis, used for sharing ideas.

External exams

BEC  (Business English Certificate) is a business language exam which can be taken at 3 levels: Preliminary (B1), Vantage (B2) and Higher (C1). The exam comprises 4 parts (Papers): reading, writing, listening and speaking.

BEC is accepted by Polish and international companies as proof of language skills required in successful communication in a variety of business contexts.

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages abbreviated as CEFR, is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries. Its main aim is to provide a method of learning, teaching and assessing which applies to all languages in Europe.

Assessment criteria

REQUIREMENTS FOR PASSING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE

Students must register for a foreign language course in the first week of the semester.

A student taking a language course through ISP is obliged to contact the lecturer to determine the rules for receiving credits within the first three weeks of the semester.

Welcome

Welcome to the Language Centre of Gdansk University of Technology. You can take a language course in one of the following languages: Polish, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Swedish, German, and Russian. We offer courses at language levels from A1 to C2. In order to check your level so that you can be placed in the correct language group, you will need to take the placement test as soon as possible at the Language Centre (Building B, room 307).
